One thing that makes Mercy Health Clinic unique among the safety net clinics in Montgomery County is how much the Clinic relies on volunteers to provide services to our patients. All of our medical providers, registrars, eligibility teams, and data entry people are volunteers and many of our nurses and interpreters also serve as volunteers. Without this level of commitment on the part of well over a hundred people, it would be impossible for Mercy Health Clinic to carry out its mission. There is never a time when we cannot use more volunteers to assist us in the delivery of medical care, in registering patients, conducting eligibility interviews, serving as interpreters, and helping enter data into our computerized health records. At present our greatest need is for registered nurses and for non-medical volunteers who can speak Spanish fluently. We also could use the services of individuals:
- with some computer knowledge who would be willing to manage the Clinic’s mailing list data base;
- writers, who could assist us in producing informational brochures and a newsletter; and
- those who have some experience in researching grant opportunities and writing grants.
If you would be willing to work six to twelve hours a month as a volunteer or would like to visit the Clinic to know more about its operation, please call Ryanne Clarke at 240-773-0307 or email her at ryanne.clarke@mercyhealthclinic.org. The Clinic is located a block from the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration in Gaithersburg.
